Monochrome photo impressions from my meanwhile numerous stays on the German Baltic coast. Photographing landscapes with their often intense colours in black and white seemed very strange to me at first. But it also offers a great opportunity to direct the viewer's gaze to essential elements that would otherwise be lost in obtrusive colours. I deliberately refrained from using the widespread long exposures, as they would again take away a lot of individuality from the moment and rob the mood of any dynamism. A smooth water surface can be photographed all year round, a certain swell at the right moment. Sometimes taken with my Nikon SLR, sometimes with my Leica rangefinder camera, always with 35 mm fixed focal length.

My monochrome photographic impressions of the baroque city of Salzburg in Austria. I am always amazed at how much lively everyday life takes place here in such a small space. And the contrast between rugged cliffs and playful architecture. In summer, during my walks through the city, I am regularly overcome by a feeling that I usually only know from cities on the Mediterranean, which is certainly intensified by the many Italian tourists. My Leica rangefinder camera with the matching 35mm reportage fixed focal length is always with me.

A selection of my monochrome photo expeditions through the picturesque Berchtesgadener Land in the Alps. Since I spend most of my time photographing in the big city due to where I live, it offers an added appeal to combine different forms of presentation in a completely different environment to get something other than the classic, rigid landscape shot that you already know from countless travel catalogues. Instead, the composition can be a little more lively. Otherwise, the same applies as on the coast in terms of colour intensity combined with monochrome; a little restraint brings out details you might not have suspected. Mostly taken by me with the Leica rangefinder camera in 35mm reportage fixed focal length, with a few exceptions also in 85mm fixed focal length on the Nikon SLR.

Abandoned places are usually not only exposed to the ravages of time, but unfortunately often also to the reckless vandalism of their visitors. As a photographer, I am all the more pleased when I get a place in front of my lens that has been abandoned for a long time and has been largely spared foreign interference. Otherwise, it certainly plays into the hands of the monochrome representation that the various graffiti on the walls of abandoned architecture, often discordant in their choice of colour, recede somewhat in their effect than would be the case with a colour photograph. Taken with my Nikon SLR and my Leica rangefinder camera, each with 35mm reportage fixed focal length.

A small selection of my monochrome photo expeditions through the German capital Berlin, which I can call home for 11 years now. The current development of the city can be discussed controversially, but still the most different historical epochs unite on the smallest space, daily animated by almost 4 million inhabitants plus their guests. In the beginning, my Nikon SLR camera was used, but now exclusively my rangefinder camera from Leica, because the mood on the streets has unfortunately changed a lot in recent years, an authentic reportage with a flashy camera is now impossible for me and sometimes even dangerous. The whole thing in my favorite fixed focal length 35mm.
