My name is Chris, I am a freelance photographer, originally from Nuremberg and currently living in Berlin.
I have a passion for photography, art that is authentic for me, whose interpretation doesn't take my breath away because it is too thick in its presentation without being arbitrary. I shoot mainly in black and white, preferring reportage, street photography, architecture, landscapes, sometimes portraits and various surrealistic works, which are mostly spontaneous. I prefer to shoot wide-angle with a 35mm fixed focal length on one of my full-frame cameras, preferably with the light available on location without the additional use of flashes.
Unfortunately, sprawling picture descriptions are not at all my thing and I am of the opinion that a good photo can tell its own story without having to verbally chew it out to the viewer in advance. This was at least the premise of the image selection.
For some time now I have been publishing my work under the pseudonym Iritxu. Iritxu is a fire-breathing bird from Basque mythology. I started doing this at a time when I was creating, offering and selling designs for numerous products of my choice, in addition to photography, and it just seemed more charming not to give my construct of various activities a clear name without being represented under several labels. Apart from that, if the clear name is only superficially supposed to ensure the respectability of one's own work, I think a lot has already gone wrong in the run-up. The design has disappeared from my repertoire, the photography has more than successfully filled this gap as well, the name has remained.
If you would like to be regularly informed about my latest photos, including those that did not make it into the portfolio of my homepage, I recommend that you also follow me on my other internet presences, like Flickr and Mastodon.
For many people, this step might have come as a surprise, but I cancelled the business account of my two biggest social media channels Twitter and Instagram, set the accounts to private, removed most of the links and, after several months of analysis, decided not to use either to publish my own photos for the foreseeable future. For me, reaching my own subscribers with my own image material, which I make available for free to a digital infrastructure with a user interface without own content, is a matter of course, instead of an additional service for which I myself would have to pay in advance another time. Because the image material provided there by me has also not created itself and published there.
As soon as a new, promising, serious social network comes onto the market, I'll be happy to take a look at it and expand my offer with another channel if necessary. I think this makes a lot more sense, both for me as a photographer and for my subscribers, in terms of content, than trying to buy a ticket to ride a dead horse that you helped pay for the saddle on while it was still alive.
